At least 105,905 people have tested positive for the coronavirus in South Carolina and 2,185 have died, according to state officials.

Tourist hot spots

Tourist destinations continue to see double-digit growth in new daily cases, state data show.

Charleston County (Charleston) had 41 new cases Sunday, Beaufort County (Hilton Head) had 28, and Horry County (Myrtle Beach) had 26.

No new deaths were reported Sunday in either county, which are popular tourist destinations.

Horry County has had 8,828 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic started in mid-March, with 162 deaths, according to the Myrtle Beach Sun News. Beaufort County has had 4,344 cases since March, and 60 people have died, the Island Packet reported Sunday.

Beaufort County’s seven-day average of new daily cases was 36 as of Sunday, the lowest average since late June.

Columbia to discuss curfew

Columbia city leaders are set to talk about a curfew, just as students return to the University of South Carolina campus.

The city’s coronavirus-related curfew expired two months ago, but the City Council plans to discuss the measure again on Tuesday, The State reported.

A curfew would likely have a big impact on popular nightlife areas such as Five Points.
