Boat crash near island kills one person, South Carolina officials say
One person was killed Saturday in a boat crash, according to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
The incident on the Intracoastal Waterway, near Sandy Island, was called an accident by S.C. DNR officials. That’s in Georgetown County, about 35 miles from Myrtle Beach.
At about 10 a.m. Saturday, DNR reported an incident involving a single bass boat with one person on board. The boater later died, DNR reported.

DNR said the man suffered injuries in the crash, and an autopsy has been scheduled, according to the coroner.
The death continues to be investigated by DNR officers.
In South Carolina, the Intracoastal Waterway is a 212-mile-long, 12-foot deep, 90-foot-wide channel extending from the North Carolina state line to Port Royal Sound near Hilton Head in Beaufort County, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
