Driver who struck tree in Richland County dies 1 week later

A driver who crashed into a tree died a week later at a hospital, according to officials.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts identified the victim of a Nov. 19 single-vehicle crash as Erica Wortham, 32, of Garners Ferry Road, according to a news release. She died Sunday at 12:11 p.m.

Wortham was driving a vehicle and left the roadway and struck a tree at 5050 Trotter Road around 3:30 a.m. Nov. 19, the release stated.

Richland County EMS transported her to Palmetto Health Richland hospital after the wreck. She was admitted to the hospital, where she later died.

An autopsy indicated Wortham’s cause of death was blunt trauma to the head and chest.

The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the wreck.
