Loan for repairs at Irmo, Chapin parks moves forward

Officials who oversee four parks on the north side of Lake Murray are near getting approval to take out up to $2 million in loans for upkeep.

Lexington County Council unanimously gave tentative approval to the step Tuesday amid assurances it will not require a property tax increase.

No one opposed the plan at a public hearing.

Officials at the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission are preparing for a series of major repairs over the next five years.

The first projects will be repaving several parking lots at facilities and fixing a half-mile road at Saluda Shoals Park submerged for several days in fall 2015 in flooding after record rain, officials said.

The loan will pay for large project that either are unexpected or necessary sporadically, commission executive director Elizabeth Taylor said.
