Lake Murray sirens test Tuesday

The annual test of emergency sirens occurs at noon Tuesday at Lake Murray.

The 10 sirens stationed around the 650-mile shoreline will sound for three minutes during the federally-required check.

Both of the dams at the 47,500-acre lake are in good shape and reviewed continually to ensure safety, officials at South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. say.

SCE&G manages a lake created 87 years ago for hydropower but now a significant source of recreation and drinking water for the Midlands.
