Wednesday house fire off Leesburg Road was cooking-related

Five people were displaced after a Wednesday house fire in eastern Richland County.

The blaze happened around 12:30 p.m. on the 1200 block of Mars Drive, which is just off Leesburg Road east of Interstate 77, according to the Columbia Fire Department. Firefighters had the fire under control by 2 p.m.

Officials said there were no injuries, but the fire, which was caused by unattended cooking, caused significant damage to the home.
