Midlands People & Achievements: William Byars

William Byars has been named the 2014 DuRant Distinguished Public Service Award recipient by the S.C. Bar Foundation. It is the most prestigious statewide award that members of the S.C. Bar can bestow on a fellow attorney. Byars has an extensive record of leadership in legal issues involving S.C. children, families and communities. After serving as a judge, he was named director of the S.C. Department of Juvenile Justice and later the S.C. Department of Corrections before retiring in 2013.
