Man wanted in Richland County shooting arrested in Texas

A man suspected in a Richland County shooting last week has been arrested in Texas and is being returned to face an attempted murder charge, the Sheriff’s Department announced Wednesday.

Javaris Mitchell, 31, was arrested Tuesday by U.S. marshals in Waco, Texas, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

Mitchell is wanted in the June 6 shooting of a 26-year-old man during an argument on the 5000 block of Baine Street, which is between Monticello and Brickyard roads, authorities said.

One of the men pulled a handgun and shot the other man in the upper and lower body, the Sheriff’s Department said, adding the injuries were not life-threatening.

Mitchell will be put in the Richland County jail upon his return to South Carolina.
