Failed proposal at Columbia Fireflies game turns out to be hoax

A failed marriage proposal at Columbia Fireflies game wasn’t what it seemed.

In the top of the seventh of Monday’s Fireflies game against the Charleston RiverDogs, it appeared that a man was rejected while supposedly proposing to a woman he was with. The man dropped down on his knee to propose and even had the Fireflies’ Fly Guys, who perform during each home, help with the proposal.

But right after the man dropped on his knee, the woman shook her head and stormed off in disgust. It turns out the man and woman are married. A member of Columbia’s staff thought it would be funny to do the prank and asked the couple to be part of it.
