2 men killed in separate crashes in same location on I-20 Saturday morning
Two people were killed in separate crashes in the same location on Interstate 20 in Lexington County on Saturday morning.
Around 4 a.m., 26-year-old Caleb Jospeh Metz, of North Augusta, was driving west on I-20 when he crossed over into the eastbound lanes, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.
Metz was killed at the scene when his car collided with another traveling east, Fisher said. The crash happened near mile marker 39.
Metz was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, the coroner said.
The driver and two passengers in the other vehicle were taken to hospitals with injuries that were not life-threatening, Fisher said.
About an hour and a half later, in nearly the same location, 25-year-old Keith Kennedy was driving a vehicle that hit the side of a Lexington County fire truck that was assisting with the earlier accident, Fisher said.
Kennedy, of Columbia, died at the scene of the crash. He was not wearing a seat belt, the coroner said.
Two Lexington County firefighters and an Aiken County state trooper to taken to hospitals with injuries that were serious but not life-threatening, Fisher said.
