Victim identified in I-77 crash that tied up traffic for hours Friday
A 23-year-old man was the victim of a fatal crash that tied up traffic for hours on Interstate 77 in Columbia on Friday.
Marcus D. Campbell, of Columbia, died at the scene of the crash around 1 p.m. Friday, Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said Saturday.
Campbell was the driver and only occupant of his vehicle when it was hit by another car that crossed over into his lane, Watts said.
Campbell died of head trauma from the crash.
S.C. Highway Patrol troopers said Friday it was a 1996 Ford pickup truck that crossed into a southbound lane near mile marker 10. The driver of the pickup truck was taken to a hospital Friday.
