Condé Nast Traveler, a luxury travel and lifestyle magazine, named Daufuskie Island one of the country’s most underrated islands.

The piece, written by Matt Meltzer, praised the “car-free historic island” for its “beautiful beaches” and rich Gullah history.

The other islands on Condé Nast Traveler’s list of hidden gems are

▪ Block Island, R.I.;

▪ Anna Maria Island, Fla.;

▪ St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands;

▪ Orcas Island, Wash.;

▪ Culebra, Puerto Rico;

▪ Apostle Islands, Wis.;

▪ Ocracoke Island, N.C.;

▪ South Bass Island, Ohio;

▪ Islamorada, Fla.; and

▪ Balboa Island, Calif.

Condé Nast Traveler isn’t the only national media outlet to take an interest in Daufuskie Island recently.

Earlier this month, the Wall Street Journal published an article about the island’s topsy-turvy real estate market.
