Tractor trailer carrying turkeys overturns on I-26, delays traffic briefly

Aaron Ransdell

Morning commuters experienced some delays along I-26 Thursday morning after a tractor trailer transporting turkeys overturned near an exit ramp, S.C. Highway Patrol officials say.

Lance Cpl. David Jones, a SCHP spokesman, said the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control of the tractor trailer while attempting to exit the highway at Exit 97. The truck overturned throwing debris and the live cargo about the roadway.

Jones said the driver of the vehicle was not injured, and drivers were still able to move around the wreckage. The ramp was closed for about 30 minutes as emergency workers up-righted the truck.

Jones said traffic in the area should be moving freely within the next 30 minutes, but drivers are urged to take caution while driving in the area as workers may still be clearing the roadway.
