Looking to adopt a pet? Here’s where you can find one for free this weekend

Excited about the upcoming solar eclipse? How about a free pet?

If you’ve been considering adding a bit of dog or cat hair into your diet, you can adopt a pet for free during Saturday’s “Clear the Shelters” event.

Columbia Animal Services and Lexington County Animal Services will be participating in the adoption special on Saturday. Other Midlands shelters will join in on the adoption-palooza.

Midlands shelters, however, won’t be alone in the effort. Hundreds across 20 states are expected to come together for this adoption initiative. More than 53,000 pets were adopted during the 2016 event.
