A water park closer to reality for Columbia’s Greenview neighborhood
The city of Columbia’s Parks and Recreation Department will hold a special groundbreaking ceremony Saturday for the pool area at Greenview Park.
A reception will follow the 3 p.m. ceremony.
The pool, in the park at 6700 David St., in the Greenview neighborhood in north Columbia, is one of just two large outdoor pools run by the city.
The $3.2 million conversion of the empty Greenview Park pool will create a water park offering a six-lane lap pool, a large children’s pool and a tubular water slide.
Consultants project the water park will attract about 25,100 visitors yearly.
The new pool is part of an upgrade of many of the city’s 56 parks scheduled over the next few years.
