Fire at Lugoff manufacturing plant caused by malfunctioning printing press
A malfunctioning printing press was the cause of a fire at a large manufacturing plant in Lugoff Monday, officials say.
The Lugoff Fire Department responded to the fire at Protective Packaging Manufacturing Complex on Standard Warehouse Road around 10 a.m., Chief Dennis Ray said in a statement released Monday.
Firefighters arriving on the scene found moderate amounts of smoke coming from the doors of the building but were able to quickly put out the fire once inside, Ray said. Employees were evacuated from the building.
There were no injuries and employees were allowed to return to work about two hours after the fire was reported, Ray said.
The damage was contained to the printing press and the building sustained minor water damage, he said. Damage estimates have not yet been determined.
