Former mayor Bob Coble, hospitalized this week for emergency surgery after a major heart attack, seemed to be doing better Friday.

“The family said he had a very good night and a good day today, so they are optimistic,” said Kevin Floyd, a spokesman for the Nexsen Pruet law firm, where Coble works.

“Mayor Bob,” 60, was rushed to Providence Hospital from the State House where he was working as a lobbyist Wednesday afternoon. Doctors performed quadruple bypass surgery Wednesday night and into Thursday morning.

Floyd said he spoke with family members twice on Friday.

Coble served as mayor from 1990 to 2010.
