Man, teen charged with making meth at Lake Carolina home

Deputies arrested 33-year-old Sam Bates Austin and charged him with manufacturing methamphetamine at a Lake Carolina home Friday, said Richland County Sheriff Sgt. Kevin Lawrence.

A 16-year-old white female resident of the home at 135 Ratchford Way was also arrested in connection with the incident and charged with manufacturing meth, he said.

Austin does not live at the home, he said.

Richland County deputies found the meth lab while on a welfare check at the Lake Carolina home in Columbia at about 3:30 p.m. Friday.
