New restaurant on tap for old Hooligan’s location in Trenholm Plaza

A new restaurant is headed for the old Hooligan’s location at the upscale Trenholm Plaza shopping center in Forest Acres.

BLD Diner – which stands for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner – will be a hip version of the American classic diner, offering everything from omelets and fresh squeezed juice in the morning to a full prime rib dinner in the evenings, owner Sean Moore said.

Moore, a former restaurant consultant, founded the 12 Five Guys Burgers & Fries locations in Columbia and Charleston more than a decade ago.

“And I wanted to get back into a full-service restaurant,” he said.

Moore and his partners had eyed the upscale Trenholm Plaza location for some time, waiting to come up with the right concept.

“It will be an all-day quality menu with reasonable price points,” he said. “We’re going to have breakfasts under $5 and some classic American fare in the evenings like bone-in pork chops, classic rib eyes and prime rib.”

Moore said the restaurant would offer “really cool food in a funky atmosphere” offering hand-spun milkshakes and even wine and beer on tap.

The diner should be open for business in mid-March, Moore said.

That’s great news for Carol Doonan, owner of fab’rik, a women’s clothing stores located next door. The store was founded three years ago, just before Hooligan’s closed after 30 years of serving sandwiches and ice cream.

“For almost two and a half years we haven’t had a neighbor,” she said. “It will be nice to have that space filled and bring more traffic and energy on our side of the center.”
