Buses and travelers have been replaced by bulldozers and construction workers at the once-popular Greyhound bus station located at the head of Five Points after the company moved to its new location on March 13.

A city building permit was issued in January that allowed Greyhound to renovate and move into a leased facility, owned by Stanley Steemer, at 710 Buckner Road in an industrial-park area just south of I-20 between Fairfield and Monticello roads. The company’s lease at its Gervais Street terminal expired on March 15.

Greyhound spokeswoman Lanesha Gipson said Greyhound chose the Buckner Road site because it is conveniently located, has easy access to the interstate and other modes of transportation and is an appropriately sized facility.

So far, Gipson said the Buckner Road terminal is fully operational and that “everything is going well.”
