Luns Richardson, longest serving president of historically black SC college, dies
Morris College President Emeritus Luns C. Richardson has died, according to a post on the college’s Facebook page. He was 89.
Details about Richardson’s death were not immediately available.
Richardson, the longest serving president of a historically black South Carolina college, announced in October 2016 that he would step down.
Richardson was the ninth president of the college and had served in that position since 1974. He also served as pastor of Thankful Baptist Church in Bamberg for 56 years.
“Dr. Richardson has worked tirelessly to maintain financial stability, increase student enrollment, initiate new academic majors, organize divisions, secure accreditation of academic programs, expand the college’s technological infrastructure and establish an Army ROTC unit (under the auspices of the University of South Carolina),” the university said in a release when Richardson announced his retirement in October 2016.
