Overturned log truck blocks lanes on US 601

Lugoff Fire Department

An overturned log truck blocked all four lanes of traffic on U.S. 601 at Interstate 20 in Lugoff early Tuesday morning, according to the Lugoff Fire Department.

The accident happened around 9 a.m. Tuesday morning, Chief Dennis Ray said.

Lugoff Fire-Rescue crews extricated the driver by stabilizing the tractor-trailer then removing the roof of the overturned truck, Ray said. The driver was taken to Palmetto Health Richland.

Logs are blocking all lanes of traffic, Ray said. The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is on the scene as well as the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Department and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Drivers were being diverted onto I-20 in both directions as well as SC-12 if they are traveling southbound on U.S. 601, Ray said. Drivers were told they should avoid the area until all of the logs were loaded and the truck was removed.
