Woman arrested after police say she tried to hit officer with her car
A woman from Conway faces assault and battery and several other charges after Columbia police say she attempted to hit an officer while driving away from the scene of an alleged assault.
Latosha Lucas, 26, is accused of hitting a woman several times Friday afternoon at a shopping center off Garners Ferry Road, near Atlas Road, according to the Columbia Police Department.
When an officer responded, several witnesses at the scene pointed out Lucas, sitting in her car, as the suspect, police say. As the officer approached the car to speak with Lucas, police say she tried to hit the officer with her car as she began to drive away.
The officer moved out of the way, and another officer followed Lucas in a patrol car with the blue lights flashing. A short distance later, police say, Lucas pulled into a driveway, got out of her car and tried to run away.
After a brief foot chase, the officer arrested Lucas.
Lucas is charged with first-degree assault and battery, third-degree assault and battery, reckless driving, failure to stop for blue lights and failure to stop on police command.
She was being held at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center Saturday afternoon.
