Irmo Police Chief Brian Buck has officially announced his retirement. His last day will be May 15, 2015.

Buck began his career with the Town of Irmo as a police explorer when he was in high school. Buck was hired as a patrol officer after he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from the University of South Carolina in 1991.

Buck was promoted over the years to a Corporal, Investigator, Sergeant, Captain, and was named Chief of Police in 2005. During his time as Chief, Buck transitioned the department into using computers in patrol cars.

Captain Joe Nates, who has been with the department for 19 years, will be promoted to Chief of Police, according to release from the Irmo Police Department.
