Richland residents can recycle electronics, tires and more Friday

Richland County residents can drop off electronics, tires, used cooking oil, paint, mattresses and more Friday at the S.C. State Fairgrounds.

The event, held annually, runs from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Enter through gate 12 on Rosewood Drive.

Last year, nearly 1,100 vehicles dropped off more than 140,000 pounds of recyclable materials, including 70,000 pounds of electronics, 30,000 pounds of household waste and 20,000 pounds of tires.

Among those working with the event are Richland County Solid Waste & Recycling, S.C. Department of Agriculture, local and regional recycling businesses.

More than 300 local students will participate in educational sessions inside the Ellison Building from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. that focus on reducing, reusing and recycling. Presenters include representatives from Riverbanks Zoo, PalmettoPride, DHEC, Whole Foods, Midlands Biofuels, S.C. Energy Office and others.
