New features at two Lexington County parks got the initial go-ahead Tuesday.
Lexington County Council signed off on plans for improvements at the parks on the north side of Lake Murray.
One project adds two baseball fields and 10 tennis courts to an unnamed 70-acre park being developed off Eptings Camp Road near Chapin.
The other is a long-planned amphitheater at Saluda Shoals Park near Irmo.
Council members approved the plan after being told it will not require a property tax increase.
Adding those features without a tax hike is “a no-brainer,” Councilman Phil Yarborough of Irmo said.
The move gives officials at the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission the initial OK to borrow $3.1 million for both projects.
Its cost is divided equally between the projects, commission executive director Elizabeth Taylor said.
