Rock Hill Little Caesars shaker-board dancer vies for world title

Anybody can get a pizza for five bucks, but that guy thousands of drivers have seen dancing with a shaker board outside Rock Hill’s Little Caesars Pizza is even better than a $5 pie.

“Our Justin is the best,” said Donna Farrell, manager of the Cherry Road store. “People just stop and stare.”

Justin White is so good that he will compete May 20 in Las Vegas for the world championship of Little Caesars shaker-board dancers.

White, 20, entered a video of himself dancing outside the Rock Hill store to win the national contest.

Now he has a chance to be named the best in the Little Caesars world.

White is heading to Sin City with his father, Weyling White, in hopes of bringing home the title. His co-workers threw him a big send-off May 16, and well-wishing posters cover the store windows.

“This is a dream of mine,” White said. “I want to show what I can do.”

White practiced dancing with the sign for three months, spinning it while moonwalking and doing other dance moves.

“I had to learn about the spinning sign,” he said. “I’m a dancer. The sign took some practice.”

A student at York Technical College who plans to attend Winthrop University next year, White has danced in competitions since he was a young child, winning titles in both South Carolina and North Carolina. His goal is to be a professional dancer or choreographer – or both.

“To be the choreographer for Chris Brown, Usher, or dance on the professional stage,” he said, “that would be a dream for me.”

White started working at Little Caesars to make a few dollars while in school. Nobody makes boxes with more speed or flair at the store than White, but it is his dancing with the shaker board that continues to turn heads.

White has moves that are funk, hip hop, classical dance and all kinds of other moves mixed into a routine he hopes will bring a championship back to Rock Hill.

And maybe, while in Las Vegas, White will catch the eye of a talent scout looking for a dancer who can do more than shake outside a pizza joint.

But first, the contest.
