Midlands man, 77, died of heat stroke. He was found 4 days later
A 77-year-old Kershaw County man died of heat stroke while cutting trails behind his home, according to coroner’s officials.
Kershaw County Coroner David West on Monday identified the victim as George James “Jimmy” Clark, 77, of Williams Road in Camden.
Dispatch received a call Saturday afternoon about a man missing from Williams Road, West said in a release. The man, identified as Clark, had purchased a four-wheeler on Tuesday morning. After returning home, Clark, who lived alone, started cutting trails behind his home.
Clark’s family lives out of town and asked a friend to check on him after they could not reach him by phone, West said. Sheriff’s deputies found Clark around 4:30 p.m. Saturday. He had walked deep into the woods and sat down before he collapsed.
He died early Tuesday afternoon, West said. The cause of death was determined to be heat stroke.
