SC man dies after car flips into Lexington County pond, coroner says

A Saluda County man is dead after crashing into a pond while driving in Lexington County Sunday, according to a statement from the coroner’s office.

Michael Lynn Martin, 56, of Ridge Spring, likely died of natural causes, despite the afternoon crash on the 700 block of Park Road, according to the statement.

Martin was driving west when his car ran off the road and overturned in a pond, according to the statement. Bystanders rushed into the pond and pulled Martin out of his car.

They tried to resuscitate him, but he died at the scene, according to the statement.

Martin was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The accident is still being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
