1 killed in I-20 crash involving a tractor-trailer
An Alabama man was killed after rear-ending a tractor-trailer on Interstate 20 Sunday.
The crash happened just after 3 p.m. in the westbound lanes of I-20 near mile marker 118, according to Lance Cpl. David Jones of the S.C. Highway Patrol.
A westbound Freightliner truck was slowing for traffic, but a Jeep traveling behind the truck was unable to stop and crashed into the 18-wheeler, Jones said. The driver of the Jeep, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lee County Coroner Larry Logan identified the victim as 23-year-old Fernando Rafael Vizcarra-Garciadarosa, of Madison, Ala. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning, Logan said.
The truck driver was not injured, Jones said.
This is the third traffic death in Lee County this year, according to numbers released Monday by the S.C. Department of Public Safety.
