Some Richland 1 schools dismissing early before the Beyoncé concert. Here’s when

Several Richland 1 schools will dismiss early on Aug. 21 ahead of traffic expected before the Beyoncé concert that night.

The concert at Williams-Brice Stadium featuring Beyoncé and her husband, Jay-Z, will begin at 7:30 p.m., but Richland 1 officials say several schools in the district will dismiss early to avoid getting buses tied up in the preconcert traffic.

Dreher High School and Olympia Learning Center will dismiss at 11 a.m.

A.C. Moore, Rosewood and South Kilbourne elementary schools will dismiss at noon.

Hand Middle School will dismiss at 1 p.m.

All other Richland 1 schools will operate on normal schedules.

“We are going to dismiss these schools early on Aug. 21 due to the heavy traffic anticipated for the concert,” district spokeswoman Karen York said. “Bus routes for these six schools run through or near the stadium area. We are hoping that dismissing these schools early will reduce the likelihood that buses transporting those students home would be delayed by the concert traffic.”

York emphasized that the early dismissals are for those six schools only, and only apply to Aug. 21.
