Construction in downtown Columbia could create traffic headaches for drivers along the Bull Street corridor for the next month.

There will be traffic delays on the inbound lanes of Bull Street near the intersections of Victoria and Franklin streets, according to the city of Columbia. Drivers are urged to follow signage and prepare for delays as travel lanes shift.

The construction is part of a citywide stormwater program to improve storm-drain infrastructure at the corner of Franklin and Bull streets, according to a release from the city.

In addition to the stormwater project, Columbia Water also is installing new waterlines within the project corridor, according to the release. The projects were coordinated to ensure that traffic flow is disrupted only once.

The new infrastructure will reduce localized flooding, increase fire protection and improve water quality for residents in the project area.

Traffic delays and detours are expected through the duration of construction, which may last up to 30 days.
