Lexington County firefighters carry resident out of burning home, save family dog
Firefighters rescued a Lexington resident who was trapped in a burning home Monday night, carrying them to safety, according to a statement from the county.
Two adults and one child were displaced after their home caught fire on the 200 block of Colony Lakes Drive, according to a statement from the American Red Cross.
The home sustained $18,000 in damages during the blaze, but the residents escaped with only minor injuries, according to the Lexington County statement
Firefighters were called to the area shortly before 10 p.m., according to the statement. While they made the trip to the home, they learned one person was still trapped inside.
When they arrived, firefighters found the resident, who was physically disabled, in the burning home, according to the statement. Firefighters picked the person up and carried them to safety, also locating the family dog along the way.
The fire was put out within 15 minutes of firefighters arriving at the scene, according to the statement. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family by providing money to help with “food, clothing, lodging and other essentials,” according to the organization’s statement.
