Columbia police plan more traffic check points over holiday weekend

COLUMBIA, SC Columbia Police will be conducting more traffic check points in well traveled areas, such as The Vista and Five Points, this holiday weekend, police chief Skip Holbrook said in a news release.

Checkpoint placement is determined by an area’s history of accidents and traffic violations.

In addition to the traffic check points, more patrols will be on the streets looking for safety belt use, proper child restraints and drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The enhanced patrols will run from Friday night through Monday.
