Sumter man dies after falling from the back of a moving vehicle, coroner says

A Sumter man died after falling off the back of a moving vehicle Saturday, according to officials.

It happened sometime Saturday on Broad Street, according to a news release Sunday morning from the Sumter County Coroner’s Office. Randy Scriven, 58, of Hospital Circle in Sumter, fell off the back of a moving vehicle.

Scriven later died at Palmetto Health Richland hospital, according to the coroner. An autopsy is expected at a later date in Newberry.

Additional details about the circumstances of Scriven’s death weren’t available Sunday. The Sumter Police Department is investigating.
