A small earthquake was reported in Fairfield County early Thursday, according to officials.

The 2.5-magnitude quake was reported just after 4 a.m. in Fairfield County, about 17 kilometers (or 10.5 miles) north of Chapin, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The S.C. Emergency Management Division also tweeted about the quake.

There was no word early Thursday on any damage.

Earthquakes that measure between 1 and 3 on the Richter scale typically are not felt “except by a very few under especially favorable conditions,” according to the Geological Survey.
