Driver ejected in deadly Kershaw County crash was wearing a seat belt, coroner says
A Kershaw County woman was killed in an early-morning crash Thursday, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.
It happened around 12:35 a.m. on Longtown Road in Kershaw, according to Cpl. Sonny Collins of the Highway Patrol.
Kershaw County Coroner David West identified the driver as 40-year-old Tiffany Kaye McNeely, of Lugoff.
McNeely was traveling south on Longtown Road toward Lugoff in her GMC SUV when the vehicle went off the right side of the roadway, West said. She over-corrected, sending the SUV off the left side of the roadway, where it hit an embankment and flipped “a number of times.”
McNeely, who was wearing a seat belt, was “ejected into the back of the vehicle,” West said.
It was not immediately clear Thursday morning what caused the SUV to exit the roadway.
The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
