Gas leak on Forest Drive blocks road, evacuated complex

Forest Drive was blocked from Trenholm Road to Lakeshore Drive at about 8 a.m. Friday because of a gas leak, according to Forest Acres PD and Columbia Fire Department.

A commercial complex at 5115 Forest Dr. was evacuated as fire crews and SCE&G work to isolate and contain the leak. The complex contains a doctors office, a dentist, message therapist, and a law office as well as other businesses.

“We’re on the scene, the road is closed while we isolate the leak to contain it,” said Mike DeSumma, spokesman for the CFD.

The road reopened at to traffic at about 9:30 a.m., according to a Tweet from the Columbia Fire Department.
