Fire damages West Columbia motel

Fire damaged a West Columbia motel early Monday, according to officials.

The fire happened just before 5 a.m. at the Delta Motel on Augusta Road, according to WACH Fox.

No injuries were reported, but two of the units had minor damage, the West Columbia fire chief told WIS.

Grace Day, who was staying at the motel, said she and her mother lost everything, including clothing and cancer medication, reports WLTX.

“I only got out with the clothes I had on,” Day told the station. “I mean what I slept in and that’s it. I couldn’t go back in, I didn’t have shoes.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The American Red Cross said in a release Monday morning that it is helping seven people displaced by the blaze.
