A driver was killed and her passenger critically injured when two cars crashed head-on in a median Tuesday night in Lexington, according to coroner’s officials.

The deadly crash happened around 7 p.m. on the 4700 block of Augusta Road in Lexington, not far from Interstate 20, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.

Shania Holcombe, 23, of Batesburg-Leesville, was driving a northbound vehicle when it crashed head-on with another vehicle in the median lane, Fisher said. Holcombe, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene.

A passenger in Holcombe’s car was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Fisher said. Two people in the other vehicle were transported with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the S.C. Highway Patrol.
