A Sumter woman died after being hit by a car Saturday, according to the coroner.

It happened just before 7 p.m. on U.S. 15, according to Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker, who identified the victim as 35-year-old Sandy Johns of Sumter.

Johns was hit by a vehicle on the highway and later died at Prisma Health Richland, Baker said. An autopsy will be conducted Tuesday at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Additional details about the deadly incident, including whether the driver stopped and any charges, were not available Sunday morning. The Highway Patrol is investigating.
