Coroner identifies Lexington man killed in Tuesday afternoon crash near I-20
One person was killed in a Tuesday crash in Leesville, according to the Lexington County Coroner.
The man who died in the single-vehicle crash was identified as Don Wayne Harrison, according to a news release from Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.
The deadly crash happened just before 12:30 p.m. on the 5000 block of Fairview Road, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol. That’s US-178 near Interstate-20.
The 71-year-old Lexington man was traveling west on US-178 when he crossed the center line and his vehicle went off the road and down an embankment before smashing into a tree, Fisher said in the news release.
Harrison was wearing a seat belt, but was pronounced dead on scene, according to the news release.
Fisher called the deadly wreck an “accident” in the news release, but said it remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Before the crash, there had been three traffic deaths in Lexington County this year as of Monday, according to numbers from the S.C. Department of Public Safety. There was one traffic death at the same time last year.
