1 killed, 2 seriously injured in head-on Midlands crash

One person was killed and two more seriously injured in a head-on crash in Calhoun County, according to troopers.

The deadly crash happened around 3:30 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 21 near Mary Bell Lane, according to Cpl. Judd Jones of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

A 2004 Ford was traveling north on U.S. 21 when the car went into the oncoming lane, hitting a southbound Toyota, Jones said. The driver of the Ford was killed.

The driver of the Toyota was airlifted to Prisma Health Richland hospital with serious injuries, Jones said. A passenger in the Toyota also was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The identity of the deceased will be released by the Calhoun County Coroner’s Office after the next of kin is notified.
