Rosso Trattoria Italian restaurant closes

Rosso Trattoria restaurant in Trenholm Plaza has closed.

The restaurant announced its closing Tuesday afternoon in a post on its Facebook page.

“It is with great sadness that we have closed Rosso in Trenholm Plaza. I want to Thank everyone for their loyal support over the years. We are looking for a new location and we will be back soon,” owner Richard Couture wrote.

Couture added the he and the restaurant’s head chef and head bartender are looking for a new location and are working together on creating a new restaurant menu.

“If you have a gift card that you purchased for someone or for yourself. Please hold on to those,” Couture added.

Couture purchased Rosso about three years ago from Kristian Niemi, who opened the restaurant in 2009. Niemi later opened Bourbon on Main Street downtown and is working on a new French-inspired restaurant called Black Rooster at the Brookland development overlooking the Congaree River in West Columbia.

Rosso’s upscale menu featured Italian fare with some slight Southern twists.
