Deputies are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was apparently hit by a train in Lexington County, officials said Thursday.

Details are limited, but the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department said they are working a death investigation involving a pedestrian who was hit by a train at Lois Lane and Chapel Road. That’s off Church Street in the South Congaree area of Lexington County.

A photo posted to Twitter by the sheriff’s department shows what appears to be a Norfolk Southern train stopped on the tracks with a red tarp over the front of the locomotive.

The identity of the deceased will be released by the Lexington County Coroner’s Office after the next of kin is notified.
