A 7-year-old South Carolina boy died after being hit by a car while riding his bicycle Saturday evening, according to officials.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. Saturday on Chaffee Street near Ralph Green Drive in the Warrenville area of Aiken County, according to Cpl. Sonny Collins of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

A Toyota SUV was traveling east on Chaffee when the vehicle hit a bicyclist, Collins said.

The victim, identified by the Aiken County Coroner’s Office as 7-year-old Bryson Mikell, was riding bikes with his brother and trying to cross a street when a car hit him, reports WRDW. The child died at the scene.

The driver did not leave the scene after the crash, the station reported.

No charges have been filed, but the Highway Patrol’s accident reconstruction team is investigating the crash, Collins said.
