A child was injured after being hit by a car in northeast Richland County on Thursday morning.

It happened just after 7 a.m. on Spring Park Drive near Longreen Parkway, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Details are limited, but Lance Cpl. David Jones said an 11-year-old was hit and injured. The extent of injuries was not available.

The driver who hit the child stayed on scene, Jones said.

Thursday’s incident comes a week after a 3-year-old died when she and her mother were hit by a car in the Eau Claire area of Columbia.
