Cause of Harbison fire that displaced 38 determined, Columbia fire department says

After 38 were displaced because of a massive apartment fire in Harbison, the Columbia Fire Marshal’s Office has determined the cause of the blaze.

The Saturday evening fire at Harbison Gardens apartments was caused by unattended cooking, according to a Tweet from the Columbia Fire Department.

Fire crews were called to the apartments off of Columbiana Drive at about 8:30 p.m., according to a Tweet from the fire department. One building was heavily damaged in the blaze.

About 18 people were inside the building when the fire broke out, according to a Tweet. No injuries were reported as of Saturday afternoon.

The fire was under control by about 10 p.m.
