A Lexington man was killed in a two-car crash near the Gilbert area on Tuesday afternoon, according to officials.
The deadly crash happened just after 4 p.m. on Spring Hill Road near Spool Wheel Road, which is just off U.S. 1 about 5 miles west of Lexington, according to Trooper 1st Class Tyler Tidwell.
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher on Wednesday identified the victim as 52-year-old Lester Jerome Blackwell III, of Lexington.
Blackwell was driving the Chevrolet Camaro that was traveling south on Spring Hill Road when he stopped at a stop sign and then proceeded across Spool Wheel Road, Fisher said. His vehicle was hit by a westbound Chevrolet Tahoe on Spool Wheel Road.
Blackwell, who was wearing a seat belt, died at the scene, Fisher said.
Tidwell said the Tahoe’s driver was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
