Motorcyclist killed when bike and car collide in Irmo, coroner says
A motorcyclist died when his bike collided with a car near Interstate 26 in Irmo, according to the coroner.
The deadly crash happened at 10 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Lake Murray Boulevard and I-26, and involved a motorcycle and a car, according to Richland County Coroner Gary Watts.
The driver of the motorcycle, 41-year-old James Robert Dukes of Ballentine Crossing in Irmo, was taken to Prisma Health Richland hospital, where he died a short time later, Watts said. The cause of death was blunt trauma.
Additional details about the crash were not immediately available. Watts said his office and the Columbia Police Department are investigating.
